Where’s That Tiger: Aliyah Andrews Using Her LSU Experience To Help Next Wave of Softball Players

Aliyah Andrews, born in Oldsmar, Florida, was a standout outfielder in her five years playing for LSU softball. During her time at LSU, she made her mark on the LSU softball record books. She finished her career second in stolen bases (145), third in runs (196), fourth in hits (286) and at bats (810), and fifth in games played (268). Aliyah made many appearances on Sports Center Top 10 for her incredible diving catches, ultimately earning the nickname “Air Aliyah”. In her senior campaign, she started all 57 games for the Tigers. She batted .365 with 70 hits to help the Tigers secure a regional in Baton Rouge and finish the season ranked 15. In her five years with LSU softball, Aliyah earned many awards including 2021 First Team all SEC, 3x SEC all Defensive Team, and 2021 NFCA All American honors. She did not only excel on the field, but off the field as well. Every year Aliyah was on the team, she earned a spot on the Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll. Aliyah graduated from LSU in December of 2019 with a bachelor’s in sports administration and a minor in business.

And now:

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in sports administration, Aliyah stayed at LSU to pursue a master’s degree in mass communication. While still working on her masters, she is also working as a graduate assistant for Tiger Life, which helps LSU athletes with their career development before they leave school. Outside of LSU, Aliyah is an assistant softball coach at Southern University. When she’s not coaching, she’s playing softball in the professional ranks. She’s a member of Athletes Unlimited. Aliyah’s dream is to play professional softball for as long as she can but is also looking to continue her coaching career or start a career in broadcasting once she finishes her masters. On what she learned as an athlete at LSU:

“Always have people's back and learning that not just the game, but life is so much bigger than just yourself. We all have this amazing impact that we don’t even realize by just having LSU written across our chests. We need to recognize it and be there for people, be kind to people and be selfless. Our coaches are a great model for that, Lindsay Leftwich is one of the most selfless people. She has always taught us to always take care of people and other people will take care of you. You never know who you’re going to meet in this life so it’s always great to be kind and do what you can for others.”
