Crews and Morgan On Top of the Sports World

Being a college student is never easy but going to classes while playing for the No. 1 ranked baseball team in the country is even harder. Dylan Crews, the junior at centerfield, and Tre’ Morgan, junior at first base or left field, have cemented their names as greats of LSU Baseball. Both athletes attended the 2023 Mikey Awards, presented by Championship Healthcare Partner Our Lady of the Lake, and opened up about how to stay positive during the season and the hardest part of being student-athletes.

As the projected first overall pick in the upcoming MLB Draft, there is a lot of pressure on Dylan Crews to be the best that he can day in and day out. With all the talk surrounding him, Crews has found ways to tune everything out and remain positive throughout the season, especially when things can get hard. “I think the best thing is learning how to balance everything out. At a young age, I really struggled with that,” Crews said. “I learned how to just enjoy things I love to do outside of baseball.” By being able to shift his focus when needed, that has helped Crews excel on and off the field.

For Tre’ Morgan, finding the balance between being an athlete and a student has not been the easiest, but as he enters his third year, he found a way that helps him stay motivated. “The hardest part is finding time to do it all,” he says. “When we get our free time, we’re usually tired from practice, but the work has to get done to stay on the field.” The biggest factor for Morgan’s motivation is wanting to be there to help his teammates in any way possible, so pushing through exhaustion to get work done is just another way to get there.

Despite there being a constant spotlight on these two players, they both have found different ways to have priorities outside of baseball, whether it be personally or academically. Dylan Crews shared his passion for things outside of baseball, which have helped keep him grounded during the intense baseball season. Whereas Tre’ Morgan talked about being able to focus on being a student at the same time as an athlete. Both athletes have contributed to dominating on the baseball field, but this shows a side that fans are not as familiar with.
