Core Values: It’s Who We Are & What We Do

The LSU Athletic Department’s newly adopted core values were rolled out on January 31, 2022 in our bi-annual department-wide meeting. These 8 core values were categorized into two buckets: “Who We Are” and “What We Do.” Our “Core Value Discussion Leaders (CVDLs)”, who were representing our various teams and units, met with co-workers to listen to their voices and their hearts. While the information remained anonymous, the feedback was consistent as to how they wanted our department to be represented.

As a result of this dialogue and other countless conversations and meetings, these core values emerged as our common theme. They are aspirational, yet they are not merely targets to be hit. They are principles on which day-to-day decisions are to be made. They are to be our standard of operation. These core values should work in unison as they are harmonious and are meant to complement each other.

One recent example of how action can exemplify our core values came in the form of leadership during a time of uncertainty. Interim Head Football Coach Brad Davis led our LSU Tigers to a January 2022 bowl game with perseverance and unapologetic authenticity. Watch this VIDEO to see how this Baton Rouge native made a difference for all of us!

As we continue our journey through developing a culture of transformational change, these core values will become more visible in our daily interactions. You are encouraged to practice using these words in emails, unit meetings, evaluations, planning sessions, and in conversations. They will provide consistency in our behaviors, decisions, and actions.
