Core Value Highlight on Growth

March was about fostering growth, which means we strive to be better today than yesterday. Each month we will share thoughts from people within our department about each core value.

What does fostering growth mean to you?

Being able to go above and beyond to assist in the success of someone else through guidance and thoughtful insight. ~Anthony Courteau

Growth means doing something every day that gets you out of your comfort zone. ~Reagan Schaefer

To me, it means putting yourself and others in a position to step beyond your comfort zone, tackle new challenges, develop new skills, and solve new problems. ~Cody Worsham

Success and failure operate on the same plane. If your success is constant you're not trying hard enough to fail, therefore not attempting to grow. Fail, take the time to comprehend it, look for your own fault within the failure, learn the lesson, perform a hard reset. ~Anonymous

As a department, how successful are we at fostering growth?

In my opinion we succeed at fostering growth through the many professional development, networking, and social learning opportunities that are presented to staff. ~Mallory Duke

As a department, we foster growth by hiring and retaining great people. Our coaches, student-athletes, and staff are goal-driven and forward thinking. We don't hope for the best. We expect to be the best and maintain this standard. Being great is the baseline. It's the standard. We grow our people and processes to meet and exceed expectations. We win early and often whether it's on or off the field, court, mat, course, or sand. We grow our fanbase and donorbase to further advance LSU Athletics. ~Jamie Hall

I think we are always growing and presenting new opportunities to grow and learn. Whether it be Women Leaders meetings or Lunch and Learns, we are constantly growing here as a team and as individuals. ~Kaylen Thornton

As a department, where can we improve to ensure we are fostering growth?

Take advantage of our employee review period to set some meaningful of SMART goals for ourselves and our staff. Do not shy away from providing feedback or sharing ideas or things that you see while at work or during an event to help staff understand what we can do better. ~Jon Pfeifer

Expanded professional development. Our growth in fostering growth since I arrived five years ago has been tremendous, but we can continue pushing this. ~Cody Worsham
