Core Value Highlight on Equity

February was about building equity, which means we utilize consistent processes to provide appropriate access and opportunity. Each month we will share thoughts from people within our department about each core value.

What does building equity mean to you?

Building equity is not only considering but also taking action on social, economic, demographic, and geographic differences. ~ Jamie Hall

In the process of evaluating the data to determine our core values, I had a difficult time conceptualizing equity. Ultimately, what helped me understand was thinking about processes and being consistent in how they are applied. ~Andrea Tepe

As a department, how successful are we at building equity?

As a department, we are building equity by offering opportunities to all employees, such as the Chew on This Lunch and Learns, Women Leaders in College Sports Watch Parties, Customer Service Training, Stadium Golf Tour tee times, etc. ~Jamie Hall

As a department, where can we improve to ensure we are building equity?

We can improve by thinking critically about areas which could be more efficient and effective by implementing a process. It is time consuming to build a process but it frees up time in the long term, making it worth the effort! ~Andrea Tepe
