Matching and Mentoring for Life Beyond Athletics

On July 1st, 2021, name, image, and likeness laws swept the country and changed the landscape of collegiate athletics forever.  Overnight, college-athletes gained the ability to legally profit from their name, image, and likeness. Now, student-athletes are engaging in contractual sponsorships an partnerships with businesses that are paying for use of their brand and what they bring to the table. These new NIL parameters inspired universities nationwide to expand their educational initiatives aimed at student-athletes in a variety of new areas including personal branding, financial literacy, time management, content creation, and more.

If we could emphasize anything in this ever-changing and fast-paced environment, it is that LSU Athletics wants their student-athletes to understand the importance of building their personal network, or as we like to call it, Building Their Board.

Build Your Board is an event that provides student-athletes with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to network with professionals. They will learn from business owners, community leaders, and those skilled in the fields of employment that they would not typical meet until well into their chosen careers. During this educational session, student-athletes are paired with professionals who can help guide and mentor them through the process of finding their passion. As they transition from sport, it will be these professional relationships that will help forge future business opportunities.

There is no better community than the LSU community to help prepare our student-athletes to navigating jobs, internships and potential partnerships.  Build Your Board engages student-athletes by teaching the art of conversation, connection, and the power of mentorship.
